The Kinden-Hesch System

A brief description of the Kinden-Hesch system

The Hesch-Kinden System is in Ultima Segmentum (the galactic east), forming part of the border between the Toton subsector and a stretch of wilderness space outside Imperial control. The Krupp System (home of its namesake industrial-military hive world) is Kinden-Hesch’s nearest Imperial-aligned neighbor.

The system’s star, Kinden, is a white-spectrum main-sequence star with few distinguishing characteristics to set it apart from any other. Orbiting it are eight planets and two asteroid belts. One of these planets is inhabited to a significant degree, another has a much lower degree of habitation, and most of the rest of the system has only been partially explored.

Click the above image for an enlarged system diagram.

Man first entered the system on date 5023572/M41 in the form of the Rogue Trader Alden Lang. By 4654579/M41, the first settlers from Krupp arrived. The system has been under Imperial control ever since, and despite its nearness to wilderness space has had luck in that it has never faced a major xeno incursion or insurrection that necessitated intervention by the Adeptus Terra.

As of 4001890/M41, Imperial Commander Julius-Rutger Anbett of Hesch remains in control of the inhabited portions of the system (such as they are). Commander Anbett has reigned here for the past fifty years and his ancestors have ruled the system since the initial settlement some three centuries ago.

Hesch itself is the capitol and only major populated world of the system. Its Commander oversees various regional noble masters that often feud with one another, but have to date kept their military actions small in scale such that the Commander has seldom had to send troops to intervene. Major exports include foodstuffs, textiles, metals and minerals.

The system is important in that its resources are valuable in keeping the hive-world Krupp fed and producing, but thus far it hasn’t really been utilized as fully as it could be given the “I’ve got mine” attitude of its local lords which led to a sharp reduction of colonization efforts shortly after they managed to entrench themselves. Also, Man has only inhabited the system for three centuries, so it’s a bit young for full exploitation anyhow.

Naval Presence

Because there’s been relatively little trouble with alien threats here and since the population of the whole system is only a few billion at most, the Imperial Navy’s presence here is probably less than it should be, especially in light of the system’s mineral wealth. The lords of this system have thus far had little impetus to tighten efforts to keep the few aliens that slink clandestinely into the system out. Navigational hazards inherent in its two asteroid belts are certainly a factor in the low naval presence as well. Another factor is that despite its underdeveloped nature and nearness to wilderness space, the system isn’t remote; it can be reached fairly quickly from a few systems in the sub-sector, permitting redeployment from more critical locations if the need arises.
